Giving You The Best Chance for a Healthy Family
Pre-Implantation Genetic Testing (PGT) is a reproductive technology designed to assess the genetic health of embryos before they are implanted during in vitro fertilization (IVF). This advanced screening process helps identify genetic abnormalities, increasing the chances of a successful pregnancy and a healthy baby. For example, PGT may be right for you in cases of cystic fibrosis, Tay-Sachs, or spinal muscular dystrophy.
Pre-Implantation Genetic Testing Options
Here are a few different types of PGT that may be right for you:
- PGT-A (Aneuploidy screening): This type of PGT screens embryos for aneuploidy, which refers to an abnormal number of chromosomes. Aneuploidy can lead to conditions such as Down syndrome, Turner syndrome, and other chromosomal abnormalities.
- PGT-M (Monogenic disorders): PGT-M is used to detect specific genetic mutations or monogenic disorders known to run in families. This type of testing helps identify embryos that are unaffected by the targeted genetic disorder.
- PGT-SR (Structural rearrangements): PGT-SR is used to detect structural rearrangements in chromosomes, such as translocations or inversions. These rearrangements can increase the risk of miscarriage or lead to genetic disorders in offspring.
