Fertility Wellness FAQs

What is timed intercourse?

Timed intercourse is the practice of identifying ovulation and the fertile window to optimize the chances of conception. Methods for predicting ovulation include urinary hormone measurement, fertility awareness-based methods, and ultrasonography.

By understanding the timing of ovulation, parents can increase their chances of getting pregnant by having intercourse during the woman's peak fertility period.

Timed intercourse is a natural method that can be used to increase the probability of conception and take a proactive approach to starting a family.

What is IUI?

IUI stands for intrauterine insemination, a common form of artificial insemination. This is a widely used fertility treatment technique that involves the collection, washing, and insertion of sperm to assist with conception in individuals facing challenges with fertility.

Artificial insemination, or IUI, is used to enhance conception. By shortening the trip for sperm cells, IUI can increase the chances of getting pregnant by providing more sperm at the top of the uterus.

Treatment costs at our Cincinnati-based intrauterine insemination Practice vary based on individual needs. We strive to assist intending parents by creating a financial plan that fits within their budget.

It may be valuable for conditions like cystic fibrosis, Tay-Sachs, spinal muscular dystrophy, and also for any type of chromosomal abnormality.

What is Hormone Monitoring?

Hormonal monitoring involves tracking the levels of various hormones in the body to assess reproductive health and determine the best course of treatment.

Through bloodwork, a custom plan for your fertility treatment can be created by the evaluation of your levels of reproductive hormones such as estrogen, progesterone, luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH).

Hormonal monitoring is essential as it can identify discrepancies or abnormalities in hormone levels that can indicate underlying reproductive issues, such as ovulatory dysfunction or ovarian reserve decline.

In addition, monitoring can help predict ovulation timing for parents trying to conceive naturally or undergoing fertility treatments like timed intercourse or even Intrauterine (IUI).

What is INVOcell?

INVOcell is a medical device used for fertility treatment through intravaginal culture (IVC). It involves combining a woman's eggs and a man's sperm in the device, which is then placed in the upper vaginal cavity for fertilization and incubation. This process mimics natural conception.

The INVOcell device has a small outer chamber measuring approximately 2.5 cm wide and 4.5 cm tall, with a retention device similar in diameter to a diaphragm at about 70 mm. It is widely observed that most women experience minimal discomfort during or after receiving the INVOcell treatment.

During the time INVOcell is in your body, it is best to avoid strenuous activities and things that can change body temperature, like hot baths or saunas. Dr. Chin also advises against swimming, douching, having intercourse, or inserting objects or liquids into the vagina while INVOcell is in place.

Typically, Dr. Chin will transfer a single embryo to the uterus for development, but we can discuss the option of transferring more than one embryo with you under extenuating conditions.
