Nicole and Doug

Hello Dr. Chin, Sandy, Grace, and everyone else!

I just wanted to write a short note to let you know how we are doing.  I am now 17 weeks pregnant with our twins.  We had an ultrasound yesterday with our new OB.  We saw their hearts (all 4 adorable little chambers), their kidneys, stomachs, diaphragms, brains, and femurs.  It was very nice to see them developing well and to know that everything is going okay.  Baby A is now 5 ounces and baby B is 6 ounces.  We wanted to know their sexes, but they both decided to keep their legs crossed and tucked up under their little butts, so no luck finding that out!  We go back for another one on the 23rd of March; hopefully we’ll find out then.  Doug was so excited after the visit yesterday that he went home, moved all of my office furniture to the basement and started taking down the border and cleaning the walls in preparation to paint the nursery.

We met a nice couple at a wedding this past weekend that has 2 year old twins, a boy and a girl.  We talked to them for about an hour.  It was nice to ask her questions and see pictures, but it was also kind of scary to hear about the formula and diaper costs!  I immediately went home and signed up for coupon mailing lists for Similac, Pampers, Huggies, and Luvs!

My mom, sister-in-law, and best friend are already planning a huge baby shower.  My dad even mentioned moving closer to us so they could help out with the babies.  They only live in West Chester (and we are in Colerain), so they aren’t really that far anyway, just about half an hour.  And we aren’t sure we want them too close… haha!  Doug’s mom has insisted that we are not allowed to put them in day care, EVER.  She has always been a stay at home grandma and kept all of her grandchildren until they were too old to be babysat, so she insists on keeping our twins as well.  We love the idea of having grandma keep them during the work day instead of a day care!

My pregnancy has been going pretty well.  My nausea went away almost over night after week 10.  My heart burn has improved 90%.  The pinched nerve in my left butt cheek and down my leg hasn’t bothered me nearly as often as before.  I’m still tired a lot, but nothing like the first three months.  I’ve put on 5 pounds in the last 4 weeks.  I am enjoying food like a non-pregnant person never should!  Someone told me last week that I am in the “honeymoon” stage of pregnancy.  The only symptom bothering me lately is migraines.  My OB gave me Fioricet to help overcome them and the pharmacist agreed that it was okay to use during pregnancy.  I’ve only taken it once when Tylenol and sleep didn’t even put a dent in the pain.  Everything else is going well.  I started wearing maternity pants about a month ago for comfort and was recently forced to buy new bras and underwear a few sizes larger than normal (too much info? – no I’m sure you’ve heard it all!).

A co-worker and friend of mine, Michelle, and her husband Todd have been seeing you guys for a little while now.  She recently went through an unsuccessful insemination and I believe has started on her second cycle.  She was really disappointed, but I think she handled it well.  I told her that she is lucky to have started with you right away and not 3 years into trying like Doug and I.  I told her to trust you, that you know what you’re doing and you’ll get her pregnant soon enough!

There is no way to say thank you for the way you’ve changed our lives.  Hopefully this letter will show you a glimpse of how many lives you’ve improved just by helping Doug and I.  Both of our families can’t wait for the babies to arrive and they all thank and pray for you at every family dinner.  We wish you and your families all the best and will keep in touch!!!

Sincerely,

Doug and Nicole
